The Indian Super League (ISL) 2023–24 season has seen 19 eventful matchweeks with plenty of drama. Four teams have qualified for the playoffs thus far, while it's heating up in the race for the final playoff spot, for which six teams are fighting for.

However, in terms of creating chances, teams that have versatile creative players have been more potent in front of the goal. Players having the caliber to beat their marker at the drop of a hat and unlock any stubborn defence line with their precise passes are considered to be an asset for their squad.

With their sublime skills, fascinating footwork, scintillating movements, and swift passes, technically sounded footballers like Brandon Fernandes, Dimitri Petratos, and Javi Hernandez have been integral parts of their respective teams’ offensive set-ups. As we’re heading towards the final stretch of this season, let’s check out the teams that have recorded the most number of chances in the ISL 2023–24 season so far.

FC Goa (Chances Created: 256)

Manolo Marquez’s FC Goa rank first in terms of creating the most chances in the ongoing ISL season. The Gaurs went through a 12-match unbeaten streak since the start of the current season, displaying their traditional attacking brand of football while enjoying more ball possession.

A squad designed with skilled, seasoned campaigners like Fernandes (40), Noah Sadaoui (29), Carlos Martinez (29), and Borja Herrera, FC Goa displayed eye-soothing football, initiating waves of attacks through both flanks.

Mohun Bagan SG (Chances Created: 196)

Mohun Bagan SG, who scored the highest number of goals (38), find themselves second by creating 196 chances (60 chances less than FC Goa) so far this season. The Mariners had started the campaign on a very positive note, but a sudden drop in form during the mid-season brought Antonio Habas back as their head coach, propelling the tides to turn in their favour.

Since then, Mohun Bagan SG have been unbeaten in their last eight ISL matches, of which they drew twice and won six. Aussie forward Dimitri Petratos continues to be the talisman for the Mariners, creating 35 chances, followed by Manvir Singh (26), Sahal Abdul Samad (18), and others.

Mumbai City FC (Chances Created: 176)

Mumbai City FC, who are currently at the top of the table with 41 points from 19 games, netted the second-highest number of goals (34) despite facing several hard times this season. The former ISL League Shield winners, who are known for their free-flowing football are third in the chance-created ranking.

However, the Islanders, who faced the least number of losses (2) this season, have notched the most successful passes (6960) thus far. For Mumbai City FC, Yoell Van Nieff created the most chances (25), while Lallianzuala Chhangte (23), and Lalengmawia Ralte (14) stand just behind him.

Jamshedpur FC (Chances Created: 172)

Khalid Jamil has instilled an indomitable fighting spirit within his players that saw a resilient Jamshedpur FC in the second half of the league, where they lost once out of their last seven fixtures. Players like Imran Khan, Mohammed Sanan K, Nikhil Barla, and Emil Benny are experiencing valuable game time under the Indian head coach.

Jamil’s high-pressing attacking brand of football is one of the many reasons behind Jamshedpur FC’s recent turnaround since the end of January. Adapting quickly to their head coach’s philosophy, players like Imran Khan (26), Jeremy Manzorro (26), and Daniel Chima Chukwu (20) shone brightly by creating chances that placed Jamshedpur FC fourth on the list, just four chances behind Petr Kratky’s team till date.

Bengaluru FC (Chances Created: 159)

It would be an understatement to say that Bengaluru FC’s form have been up and down in their home and away games, but Javi Hernandez’s creativity has remained constant. The Spanish attacking midfielder has netted five goals so far this season in his 18 appearances.

Despite going through some highs and lows, the Blues are ranked fifth in the list for creating the most number of chances by any club in the ISL 2023-24 season. Hernandez (25), Ryan Williams (19), Naorem Roshan Singh (14), and Suresh Singh Wangjam (10) have been the standout performers for Gerard Zaragoza’s team with their sheer creativity and potential to be the key factor in decisive moments.
