Odisha FC have had a lopsided campaign so far in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season. While they have made tremendous progress under head coach Josep Gombau, they still have a few leaks that need to be addressed in their hunt for a seat in the playoffs.

Positioned sixth in the league standings with 23 points, the Juggernauts face stiff competition from seventh-placed Bengaluru FC and eighth-placed Chennaiyin FC for the hot seat.

With their recent run of performances not completely helping their stand of heading into the playoffs, Gombau’s men have not been able to continue their winning momentum outside of their fortress at Kalinga Stadium. Their last three matches saw the side losing two games and drawing one.

The Kalinga Warriors have won only one of their last eight matches this season, their only win in their last eight matches came at their home ground. To put this into a larger frame, the Bhubaneswar-based side have won seven out of the 16 matches this season and about 71% (5/7) of those wins have come at home.

Statistically, the side has averaged 1.86 goals per 90 minutes at home, netting a total of 13 goals. Compared to their away form, they tend to score more goals at home as compared to their away fixtures. On the road, they have scored 10 goals, averaging 1.11 goals per 90 minutes.

Defensively too, Odisha FC have been over-reliant on their home record. Their only two clean sheets this season have come at the Kalinga Stadium. In terms of conceding goals too, Odisha have conceded 18 goals away from home which is double than what they have conceded at home (9) this season.

In their upcoming home assignment against FC Goa, the Juggernauts face a bonus of facing a team that has been winless on the road in their last six games (2 draws, 4 losses).

If Odisha FC manage to win their upcoming match at their home ground, they could potentially break the club record of most wins in a single Hero ISL season. They have also equaled their most wins record of seven wins from the 2019-20 season. With a win in the upcoming match, they could also break their best points tally in a Hero ISL season (25 –2019-20 season).

With Gombau’s efforts harvesting fruit in the team, the side needs a slight push to make an entry into the top six and if they manage to do that, it will be a historic feat for the club.
