Campaign Clean India: Kochi kids show how it is done!

The ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ or ‘Campaign Clean India’, a campaign launched by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has found supporters from various sections of society, and has made a mark on the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) as well. A group of school kids at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi have taken it upon themselves to spread the Prime Minister’s message not by words, but by deeds, staying after the match and quietly going about their business, cleaning the stands after the game.
The kids had a pleasant surprise in store for them, as the Kerala Blasters team spotted the post-match cleaning session and decided to encourage the kids by helping them clean the stands, taking time off from their schedule, surely a massive source of motivation for the young crusaders to keep at their task in the future.
“I was really touched by these young kids trying to do their bit for the sport we love. It was refreshing to see the future of India trying to bring a change and supporting this national cause. I have read about this initiative and Kerala Blasters FC are happy to support this initiative and are witnessing the action towards the success of this cause,” said David James, player-head coach of Kerala Blasters FC.
Along with David James, players from Kerala Blasters and 50 school kids got together to spread the slogan of ‘Swach Bharath, Swasth Bharath’ by cleaning the stadium together to encourage spectators to keep the stadiums clean.
The ISL is being followed millions in India and worldwide, and if it serves as platform to spread awareness about cleanliness in the country, along with the backing of sports figures and celebrities, the work done by such selfless volunteers will go a long way in helping the Indian government achieve its goal.
