Yesterday’s Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match between Delhi Dynamos FC and FC Pune City may have ended in a goalless draw, but there were still some players who caught the eye with their performances. Delhi’s Bruno Herrero Arias put in an excellent shift in midfield, showing composure and a crucial ability to keep the ball moving and an eye for a pass.It was his first experience of playing in India and he was visibly tired at the end of the game at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. But the Spaniard had no complaints about the tough conditions, instead being delighted at having played his first game here.“I liked it! I don’t know a lot about India yet, but I’m very happy that I’m here playing,” the former Sevilla and Real Murcia player said of his first taste of Indian football. He was pleased with his performance and his team’s overall play, which he felt was deserving of a victory. “I thought it was a good game for our team. I thought we deserved to win, but the game of football is such,” the Spaniard said. The midfielder was pleasantly surprised with the support his team received from the crowd even though the team failed to send them home happy with a victory. “I was very happy to see them. I had no idea about the kind of support here, which I got to witness,” Arias enthused. “I must admit I’m surprised, but I’m glad."It is a mark of the Spaniard’s focus that his attention immediately switched to Delhi’s next assignment, an away game against Atlético de Kolkata on October 19. “The next game is near, and we need to think about that game,” Arias said.Asked about Delhi’s marquee player. Arias’ eyes lit up as he spoke of Alessandro Del Piero, who has clearly made his mark in the dressing room, not just with his obvious talent but also his affable personality.“Del Piero is a very good player. He’s not only a good player, but also a very good person, which for me, is very important!"While the Italian will draw the headlines more often than not, the Spaniard will no doubt be the player to watch out for during Delhi’s ISL campaign.
