Among the Elites: A look at Indian players who have scored hat-tricks in ISL
With this hat-trick against NorthEast United FC, Vikram Partap Singh added his name to the prestigious list as the second youngest player to score a hat-trick in the ISL.
The Indian Super League (ISL) entered its tenth season with the commencement of the 2023-24 season.
Over the years, the league has witnessed many bright talents from all corners of the nation emerging to display their skills among the biggest names. However, only a select few have managed to deliver stunning individual performances in a single game.
Mumbai City FC’s Vikram Partap Singh has been in fine form this ongoing season and has bailed out his team on a couple of occasions already, in the absence of key foreigners.

Singh once again elevated his game in their latest victory over NorthEast United FC in Matchweek 19 of the ISL 2023-24 season, where he notched his first ISL hat-trick, propelling himself into the elite list of Indian players who have scored a hat-trick in the ISL.
On that note, let’s take a look at the Indian players who have bagged themselves a hat-trick in the ISL thus far.
Vikram Partap Singh (Mumbai City FC)
Mumbai City FC 4-1 NorthEast United FC
12 March, 2024
The latest player to get his name inscribed on this prestigious list, Singh has been in top form in the second half of the ISL 2023-24 season. While hosting NorthEast United FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Tuesday, Singh hammered in an early goal in the third minute of the game, thanks to a long ball from Yoell van Nieff, which took the Highlanders by surprise. Within the next seven minutes, he doubled his tally by heading the ball into an empty net. With 10 minutes left of regulation time, the 22-year-old completed his hat-trick by converting Lallianzuala Chhangte’s grounded cross, scoring the last goal of the night.
Kiyan Nassiri (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)
Mohun Bagan Super Giant 3-1 East Bengal FC
29 January, 2022
Former East Bengal FC striker Jamshid Nassiri’s son, Kiyan Nassiri, registered his ISL hat-trick in exceptional fashion, bagging three goals against the same Red and Golds his father used to play for. On January 29, 2022, the then-21-year-old forward was brought on as a substitute for the Mariners when they were one goal down to East Bengal FC. With Nassiri stepping onto the pitch, things took a fortunate turn for the Green and Maroons, who scored three goals in the match, all through the efforts of Nassiri, to win the match 3-1. Nassiri became the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the ISL.
Bipin Singh (Mumbai City FC)
Odisha FC 1-6 Mumbai City FC
24 February, 2021
The instrumental Mumbai City FC forward has always played a pivotal role in the frontline of the Islanders. Back in 2021, on February 24, playing at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Singh scored the first hat-trick of the ISL 2020-21 season. Although Odisha FC were the first to find the net through Diego Mauricio’s spot-kick, the Islanders secured an emphatic 6-1 win, with three goals coming from Singh, accompanied by a brace from Bartholomew Ogbeche and a goal from Cy Goddard.
Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC, Mumbai City FC)
Mumbai City FC 5-1 NorthEast United FC
28 October, 2015
The Indian national team captain is the only player on this list to have achieved this feat twice, for two different clubs. Chhetri became the first Indian player to bag a hat-trick in the ISL, while playing for Mumbai City FC back in 2015, scoring three crucial goals in their 5-1 win over NorthEast United FC.
Bengaluru FC 3-1 FC Pune City
11 March, 2018
Three years later, in the ISL 2017-18 season, the Captain Fantastic reenacted this feat, this time representing Bengaluru FC. Chhetri scored thrice against FC Pune City, leading his team to a commanding 3-1 win in the second leg of the semi-final. This victory propelled the Blues to reach the ISL final for the second successive season.
Seiminlen Doungel (NorthEast United FC)
NorthEast United FC 3-1 Chennaiyin FC
19 January, 2018
Earning his spot on this list, Doungel bagged his only ISL hat-trick while playing against Chennaiyin FC on January 19, 2018. Doungel’s hat-trick was the first scored by an Indian player in the ISL 2017-18 season and led his team to a convincing 3-1 win.
Semboi Haokip (FC Goa)
FC Goa 7-0 Mumbai City FC
17 November, 2015
Playing against Mumbai City FC on November 17, 2015, Haokip found the back of the net thrice, orchestrating a 7-0 win for his team. With this hat-trick, Haokip became the then-youngest player to achieve this feat but was later overtaken by Kiyan Nassiri and Vikram Partap Singh. Notably, Dudu Omagbemi also netted a hat-trick in that match.
