New records and milestones have always been an intrinsic factor in sports, with fans looking forth to witness never-before-seen feats transpire on the field. The Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL), too, fits into the mould. Over the last five seasons, the Hero ISL has presented some special moments to cherish for Indian football fans and the 2019-20 season is only expected to do more of the same.

With the new season right around the corner, here are some holistic, team and player milestones which may be breached this term:

1000 Hero ISL goals

Goals have always been, and will be, the centre piece in football. Over the first five seasons of the Hero ISL, 975 goals have been scored so far at a rate of 2.6 goals per match. While the grand milestone is almost certain to be breached this season, going by the stats, the 1000th goal might come between Match 9 and Match 13. However, with the abundance of attacking talents gracing the 10 teams in the league this season, the special mark may be breached earlier too.

Ferran Corominas could become the first player to 50 goals

With 34 goals to his name, FC Goa's Ferran Corominas or Coro is the Hero ISL's top goal scorer, despite having played just two seasons in India. The Spaniard, who won the Golden Boot in both his Hero ISL campaigns, is on track to become the first player in the league's history to score 50 individual goals and all he needs to do is to maintain his staggering average. It's easier said than done, but few would bet against the Spaniard considering his proven goal scoring record and his form for FC Goa in pre-season.

Subrata could become the first goalkeeper to affect 250 saves

With 206 saves to his name, Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper Subrata Paul is just 44 saves away from reaching the 250 landmark. The veteran custodian has been one of the most consistent custodians in the history of the league. The numbers needed maybe just a whisker above his average of 41.2 saves per season, but it’s well within the margin of deviation. Furthermore, Subrata has affected more than 44 saves on two separate occasions in the past - in 2014 (49) and in 2017-18 (47).

Multiple players to breach the 300 tackles mark

There are multiple players who have a realistic chance of breaching the 300 tackles mark this season. Raphael Augusto (285 tackles), Sauvik Chakrabarti (274 tackles), Lucian Goian (246 tackles) and Ahmed Jahouh (231 tackles) are all in line and fans may even witness a bit of a race to the mark. Kerala Blasters' Sandesh Jhingan is also just six away from hitting the 200 tackles milestone.

Six teams in line for their 100th Hero ISL match

Six of the eight teams who were part of the inaugural season - ATK, Kerala Blasters FC, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, Mumbai City FC and NorthEast United FC - are all in line to play their 100th match in the Hero ISL. The quickest to reach this milestone will be FC Goa (in their 12th match of the season), followed by ATK and Chennaiyin in their 14th match of the 2019-20 season. Among these six, only NorthEast will need to reach the semi-finals this season to reach the mark.

FC Goa may become the first team to 50 wins

The Gaurs, with 38 wins under their belt, have an outside chance to become the first team to win 50 matches in the history of the competition. However, to achieve that Sergio Lobera and Co. will have to better their own club record for most wins in a season (11 in 2018-19) by one.

The Hero ISL 2019-20 gets underway from October 20. You can check the full fixtures list here.
