Born in Mizoram, Hmingthanmawia came up through the ranks at the Aizawl youth setup and was promoted to the senior team in September 2017. He made 10 appearances in the Hero I-League 2017-18 in his debut season with the club, playing primarily as a centre back, but also filled in as a defensive midfielder when required.
