Kerala Blasters FC travel to the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune to take on FC Pune City in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 on Friday. Last year’s finalists are in a situation wherein they might need wins in all their remaining matches to qualify for the playoffs. Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown joined Kerala this season to solidify their defence, and prior to their match in Pune, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the Englishman for his thoughts on his new experience and the clash against the Stallions. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

How has your first experience of football on Indian soil been?

It has been really good. The first experience I had was the opening ceremony. It was fantastic in every way. I did not get to play in the opening game. But the whole spectacle and how it was done and how the fans approached it, with the game afterwards was fantastic.

Any words on the fans and the atmosphere in the country?

The fans have been brilliant; the Kerala fans particularly. They probably got the most fans in the league at the moment. For every game they are all dressed up, put make up. They give it a hundred percent, and it helps us play. And they are definitely one of the best fans I have ever played for.

Have you experienced anything unique so far in the country?

India, as a whole, is a lot different to where I am from. I am from Manchester. Kerala is very different as well. For one it is hot. And the traffic as well. Lots of beeps, which I am not used to. But on the whole, everyone is nice and polite and friendly, and for me that’s one of the most important things.

Any words on your new coach David James?

I have known David for many years. I have played against him as well. He has been coach here once before and he is doing a fantastic job. We started to win a few games now. Obviously, we have lost a couple, we are starting to progress slowly. He has come in and been great with the lads. The lads understand what he wants. So, hopefully we can try and get another win tomorrow and go on from there.

If you weren’t a centre-back, which position would you play in?

I always wanted to be like Ryan Giggs, so I would play left-wing. I always wanted to be left-footed as well. I used to watch him, growing up as a teenager, just like many other people did. So, I would definitely be like Ryan Giggs on the left wing.

What are your thoughts on tomorrow’s game?

It’s going to be a very tough game. We know Pune is going to be a difficult team to play away. But, we have got the players. Hopefully we can get the win if we play hard. We trust each other. We’ll do what the manager wants and hopefully we can go away with the three points that we desperately need. So, we are looking forward to it, and it would be nice to go back to Kochi with three points.
