Allez Les Blues! That’s the slogan of the moment. France added a second star to their emblem by lifting the 2018 FIFA World Cup after a thrilling 4-2 win over Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Sunday. The final was one of the most entertaining in recent memory with a flurry of fantastic goals and controversial decisions.

This was the highest-scoring final since England beat Germany in 1966. France also became the first team to score four goals in the finals since Brazil did in 1970. Billions across the world were glued to their television sets to catch the enthralling final, including some of our very own stars from the Hero Indian Super League(ISL). Teams and players from the league took to Twitter to congratulate France on becoming the World Champions, 20 years after they lifted their first.

Croatia, the dark horses of the tournament, surprised all by entering their first-ever final. Though they were not able to stall the French brigade, they won a number of fans for their sheer display of ambition. Jamshedpur FC defender Pratik Chaudhari perfectly echoed our thoughts, sharing his feelings on the month-long festival.

A host of Hero ISL clubs also took to Twitter to congratulate France for a memorable campaign.

Despite losing in the final, Croatia enjoyed their best-ever finish in a World Cup. The Vatreni topped their group, overcoming Argentina in the process before relying on extra-time and penalty shootouts to overcome the likes of England, Russia and Denmark. Sandesh Jhingan and Iain Hume were full of praise for the team’s incredible achievement over the course of the past month.

We witnessed some great performances by several players over the course of the tournament. Kylian Mbappe, who was France’s standout player, was awarded the best Young Player of the Tournament while Luka Modric won the Golden Ball. Bengaluru FC’s Rahul Bheke and ATK’s Eugenson Lyngdoh congratulated the pair for their fine performances at the tournament.

Alongwith the Indian stars, former Hero ISL Champion and French national team player Bernard Mendy was delighted with his country’s milestone achievement.
