Jamshedpur FC travel to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai to take on the home team Chennaiyin FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 on Sunday. The league debutants are currently in glistening form having won five of their last six encounters, and a win will edge them further towards a top-four finish. At present, the visitors boast of the best defensive record in the league, with their young defender Shouvik Ghosh playing a significant part in it. Before the weekend’s crucial fixture, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the 25-year-old to find out his views on the match, the league and his team’s performance. Here are the excerpts.

Jamshedpur have been in a good run of form, winning 5 of their last six encounters. What are your thoughts on that?

We tried to play as per what our coach told us. We all are giving more than 100% on the ground and because of that, we have won those five matches. Now we will try to win the next match as well by giving our 100%.

What do you make of Jamshedpur’s chances of making it to the playoffs?

We can make it to the playoffs. This match against Chennaiyin is very important for us and we need to win it, anyhow. If we win this game then we don’t have to worry about the top-four chances anymore, as we will be in a good position.

How happy are you with your personal performance this season?

I am obviously happy. Our coach and the coaching staff give us inputs and strengthen our defensive prowess. Video analysis also helps all the defenders in the team to find out what can be done better. So it all feels good.

Jamshedpur’s attack have improved after Wellington Priori’s entry. How important was the signing for the team?

It was an important signing because he is very strong and his ability to control the ball is also really good. He surges forward during attacks and also holds the midfield pretty well. So he has been very effective for us.

Jamshedpur started the season very slow. What according to you was the reason behind this?

No, I don’t think it was slow. It wasn’t bad either. We may have won one match after three games, but still, that was good for us.

Jamshedpur is known to attack from the wings. What is the reason behind the same?

The players who feature on our wings play really well and that can be one of the reasons behind this. Hence, it’s easier for us to attack from the sides.

Any message for the fans?

Please keep your faith on us. We will try to win this match. Keep supporting us and for sure we will enter the top-four.
