Goals from Sunil Chhetri and Cleiton Silva ensured Bengaluru FC bagged maximum points with a 2-1 win over Odisha FC in their 2020-21 Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) match at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Thursday. Two of the Blues substitutes –- Deshorn Brown and Udanta Singh -- were involved in the winner and head coach Carles Cuadrat played up his squad’s depth in the post-match press conference.
“It was a very tough game and it was difficult to get the three points. But I am happy because the depth of the squad has shown that they are ready to help the team and this is very important. The players that came onto the pitch helped us get the three points so I am very happy with the work,” Cuadrat said.
“We are a solid and compact team. All the players know what they have to do in different positions. New players need some time to adapt because the level that we demand is very high,” he added.
Silva scored his third goal of the season and the versatile Brazilian drew a lot of praise from Cuadrat. “He has a lot of quality and he is very clever while making decisions. He is a fantastic player for us because we can use him as a No. 9, 10 or as a winger. He is one player who is making an impact in the Hero ISL.”
Cuadrat also provided an update on the injury of Ashique Kuruniyan which forced him off the pitch. “Ashique’s injury looks like a fracture on the face. I am very sorry for him because in my opinion he was our best player this season. It might take some take to get him back.”

Meanwhile, after losing their fifth game this season Odisha FC head coach Stuart Baxter conceded his team were now running out of time in terms of bringing their campaign back on track. “We have a young group (of players) who are almost playing well but luck is not on their side. They are losing confidence and concentration in every game. We don't have a lot of time to turn the results because of the current situation but this is the job we have in front of us,” said the Englishman after the game.
