Jamshedpur FC slumped to a second consecutive loss in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20, this time away to Odisha FC at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar on Friday. A first-half brace from Aridane Santana sealed the narrow win for the home side after Aitor Monroy’s penalty had cancelled out the fellow Spaniard’s opener.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, head coach Antonio Iriondo gave his views on the loss to Odisha, “We are pretty happy with the way we played today. For us, we played better than the other team. We had chances, more chances than the opponent, but because they scored two goals, they got the three points. We missed a few foreign players who are injured, especially in our attack. We created chances, we kept the ball and played well. We just were not able to score the goals.”

The Spaniard added to this saying, “The first goal was a mistake from our defence. As I said before, we need to score the goals. Aridane (Santana) scored with the first chance he had because he is a very good striker. We missed our important strikers like Sergio Castel and Piti. Hopefully, we will start the next year on a better note.”

Santana was the star performer for the opponents on the night. “We knew they play long balls to him and for us, the most dangerous point was when the Odisha players played the second ball. We spoke before the game about the threat he carried but unfortunately, we didn’t stop him well,” Iriondo said on being asked about the influence of the striker on Odisha.
