Mumbai City FC, on Saturday, will host two-time Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) champions ATK at the Mumbai Football Arena. Having won their last three matches on a trot, the Islanders will go into the fixture full of confidence and will be looking for nothing less than three points.

Before the match, indiansuperleague.com sat down with Mumbai defender Joyner Lourenco for a chat. Here’s what he had to say.

Can the team make it to the playoffs?

Obviously, we are aiming for the playoff spot. Our main aim is to keep a clean sheet and keep winning all the matches and we’re doing it and taking it one step at a time.

Thoughts on the match against ATK.

We all know that ATK are a good team. They have individual talents but we are all prepared for it. Obviously, we are working very hard and we’re hoping to keep the momentum going.

Thoughts on head coach Jorge Costa.

The experience has been great for me. As we know, he’s been a defender as well as a great player and a legend. So obviously, he’s given me advice on what to do and what not to do. He wants to be aggressive and keep winning.

Thoughts on the team’s form.

It was a slow start to the season and after the FC Goa match, we’ve been training hard for all the matches. Then, we won three matches in a row and so our confidence is high. We are ready to take on ATK.

Do you see yourself starting more matches as the season goes on?

Yes, and I’m lucky to have started three matches. I’m very happy that I’ve kept three clean sheets and won all three. If given a chance in the coming matches, I’m going to give my best and do what is required for the team.
