Hyderabad FC has been one of the most consistent performers in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) this season. Under the tutelage of Manuel Marquez the club has moved on from the demons of the past and achieved new heights in 2021.

In the 2020-21 season HFC finished fifth and missed out on the semi-final spot by just a couple of points. But in the current Hero ISL season they stand in second position just one point behind league leaders Mumbai City FC.

Hyderabad FC's 2021 in numbers: Pl: 20, W:8, D:11, L:1, Win%: 40

Hyderabad FC remained unbeaten in the second half of the Hero ISL 2020-21 season. They played 12 matches out of which won four and drew eight.

In the current season they are placed second in the points table having won four out of eight matches. The club has lost one and drawn three in the other four matches.

The high

The signing of Bartholomew Ogbeche has been the game changer for the club. Last season, they struggled to come up with the goods in tight situations and as a result they ended up drawing most of their matches. However, the arrival of Ogbeche has turned things around. He is the leading goalscorer in the Hero ISL 2021-22 season so far. Moreover, his contribution has taken HFC to second position only a point behind first position.

The low

Hyderabad FC missed out on a semi-final spot in the 2020-21 season after drawing with FC Goa in their last match of the league stage. A win there would have put them through to the next round. The club attracted a lot of eyes thanks to their playing style, so earning a place in the next round would have put the cherry on the top.

Best Player

Ogbeche has been the best player for Hyderabad FC in 2021. He has scored eight goals this season and has led the team from the front by setting an example.

What to expect in 2022

Hyderabad FC will aim to at least finish in the top four this season, if not win the league stage. Further, they would have their eyes set on the Hero ISL trophy. The club has given itself a good start to build on and achieve greater heights.
