It’s fair to say that once you’re a Kerala Blasters player, you immediately book a place in the heart of their fans no matter where destiny may take you next. Iain Hume was the star for the team in yellow in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) season 1, but then jumped ship to Atletico de Kolkata. The Blasters fans though, had undeterred love for their superstar striker. Now back with the team he started his ISL career with, the admiration from the fans has grown even stronger. The same can be said for Josu Currais. The Spanish player joined the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned outfit in 2015 and quickly won the hearts of the fans. Josu’s opener against NorthEast United FC on October 6th was just the start for the diminutive player on his road to becoming a fan favourite. Josu’s string of impressive performances coupled with the fact that he played with his heart on his sleeve meant that the fans in Kochi would go on to sing his praises.Under Englishman Steve Coppell, Josu would undergo a change in position. The former Reading manager thought it best to place the Spaniard in a more defensive role. Josu’s transformation from a midfielder to a defender brought out the best in him. His solid displays catalyzed Kerala Blasters’ run through to the ISL final. In May 2017, Josu signed on the dotted line for United Soccer League side FC Cincinnati. Josu’s performances wouldn’t dip, as he would go on to record two assists from left back. Those displays earned him a contract extension – a move that broke the hearts of those Kerala Blasters fans that still harboured hopes of him re-joining the team for the upcoming season. As the news struck social media, the famous yellow army wasted no time in sending messages to their hero.Good luck, Josu.Wishes poured in from the Kerala Blasters fans for Josu Currais, after he extended his contract with FC Cincinnati. #LetsFootballPosted by ISL- Indian Super League on Sunday, August 6, 2017Josu would, of course, go on to thank the Kerala Blasters fans for all the love that they’ve showered on him. Also say thanks to all @KeralaBlasters fans... always in my ??... You are special... 10000 thanks for this 2 past years...!— Josu Prieto Currais (@CurraisJosu) August 4, 2017Whether Josu turns up in yellow in the future remains to be seen, however, given the mutual adoration between both parties, a reunion doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
