Hume lauds team-mates after ATK reach second final

Iain Hume was delighted to make the final of Hero Indian Super League 2016 after Atlético de Kolkata drew 0-0 with Mumbai City FC in the second leg of the first semi-final at the Mumbai Football Arena on Tuesday. The Canadian striker didn’t feature in the match, however, it turned out to be his brace in ATK’s 3-2 win in the first leg that proved to be the difference as Kolkata won the tie on aggregate and entered their second final in three years. Hume, who is also the 2014 champions’ top-scorer with seven goals this season, spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the final whistle. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

What was the plan going into the game?

Just to go about things the same way we did in the first leg. Obviously, it is a bit difficult to attack when you are playing away against the best team in the league, so they put us under pressure from the start. It was very difficult and when you get a red card in the start, it makes it more difficult and I think from the first whistle our guys defended brilliantly and testimony to our goalkeeper and back four, they were brilliant and that is the reason we are in the final and a clean sheet again, so extremely happy with the way things have gone.

ATK have reached their second final in three years. How does it feel after that loss in the semis to Chennaiyin FC last year?

Last season losing in the semi-final was heart breaking and after that we took the hard route possible and to be there now is a massive relief. It is testimony to the team and we are very tight knit from top to bottom and I think we have put ourselves in a good position, so we all are looking forward to it.

There is strong possibility of facing Kerala in Kochi, considering they are a goal up?

That means nothing and I wish them all the best, and Delhi are a top side and both strong teams are fighting for it and my main aim was to help ATK get to the final, and hey, we have done our part of the bargain and we will be watching tomorrow’s game keenly.
