Gerson Vieira will need to put in a solid display at the heart of Mumbai City FC’s defence if the Islanders want to get a positive result against FC Goa at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday. Mumbai conceded twice against Bengaluru in their previous encounter, but they will be looking to put that result behind when they entertain Goa in front of their home fans. Brazilian centre-back Vieira, who has been an influential presence in Mumbai’s backline since Hero ISL 2016, spoke to indiansuperleague.com ahead of the clash. Here are the excerpts.

How are you planning to approach the game against Goa?

We have listened a lot to our head coach, and we have to propose a different behaviour. Press more and try to keep more of the ball with us.

Goa like to be in possession as well, how are you planning to tackle that?

We will try to press more and be more aggressive.

Any specific plans playing against Ferran Corominas and Manuel Lanzarote?

We know Goa have very good players. But we don’t have any specific plans for them. We will try to do our best, to tackle and give the ball to our quality guys to play and try to score.

How big a difference will it make to play in front of your home crowd?

I always say that playing here in Mumbai is completely different for us. The energy in the stadium is amazing, and I’m kind of anxious to play again in the stadium, and everyone is expecting a lot from us at this moment.
