FC Goa coach Zico was a disappointed man after his team’s 4-0 defeat against Chennaiyin FC in a Hero Indian Super League 2015 match at Fatorda’s Jawaharhal Nehru Stadium on Sunday evening.Goa came into the match on the back of a win and a draw against Delhi Dynamos FC and Atlético de Kolkata respectively while Chennaiyin FC took the field today after losing their previous matches to Atlético and Delhi. Under pressure to deliver, the Marco Materazzi-managed Chennai fired on all cylinders and thanks to a hat-trick from Stiven Mendoza and one goal from Elano they registered their first win of the season. In the post-match conference, Zico admitted it was a disappointing day for his team. “Completely. When we prepare in practice, we come with the objective to win in mind. We didn’t play with the same energy as [we did in] the previous games, and the other team was better prepared and they practically destroyed us. Unfortunately we couldn’t give everything that we had, everything that we practiced. The goals that they scored, that was just what we practiced [defending against] during the week; we were not happy with the finishing too. It is football,” the Brazilian said.Zico also had no hesitation in accepting that Chennai’s midfield fared way better than his. “We were completely dominated there. We had advised our players to mark Elano there, because what Elano does is to go and get the through ball to Mendoza, and when he gets this ball he is deadly. We can’t allow him to control the ball, turn around and out [with] his through ball. Unfortunately they allowed it,” he said. The 62-year-old also dismissed a suggestion that his team was tired because of playing three matches in eight days, saying Chennai had played the same number of matches in the same period.FC Goa now travel to Guwahati to play NorthEast United FC at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on Thursday.
