NorthEast United FC head coach Nelo Vingada believes his team was unlucky not to have got any point from their 2016 Hero Indian Super League match against defending champions Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Thursday. Davide Succi’s goal in the 49th minute proved to be difference between the two sides. Speaking to the media following his second defeat this season, Vingada said: “So today was a good game with Chennaiyin, who have great players and are a good team… After going 1-0 down we created a lot of chances and had one or two situations where we could have scored and changed the game but this is football.“So Chennaiyin was luckier than us and they got the three points and we now have got to focus on our target to reach the last four. We are not out and I feel we showed fantastic fighting attitude in the game which was very intense for the supporters and the players, and after twenty days and six games I am very happy with the performances of the players. Of course, I am not happy with the result today, which is normal, but I was happy with the determination and effort which the players showed today to turn the result but unfortunately it was not enough.”The match also witnessed a few heated moments with both teams employing physical play more often than not. When asked if he thought his players overpowered by the visitors on the night, Vingada said: “Our last thirty minutes…our reaction was very good and we created some dangerous play to score and you know Romaric was alone and he had the ball so he could have scored or made an opportunity but the goal-keeper made a good save, and also Emiliano Alfaro, maybe if he was not so tired he could have scored but I don’t want to make excuses.”Talking about the positives for his team from Thursday’s encounter, the Portuguese said: “Delhi made a fantastic recovery after going down a couple of days ago [vs Mumbai City FC]. So the positive was our reaction after going down and the opportunities which we created did create problems for them, so this shows our team has potential and quality and we can work and develop on many things and as I said earlier, sometimes you need a little bit of luck and today we were not lucky but in fourteen games I believe we can be lucky and win in spite of not playing as good as we played today.”NorthEast, still at the top of the league with 10 points from six matches, now play Atlético de Kolkata in Guwahati on October 28.
