High-flying NorthEast United FC will look to get back to winning ways when they go up against Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Highlanders have been one of the standout performers in the league so far and currently sit in second place in the standings. They will be fancying themselves to come away with their third victory of the season against a Delhi side that looks devoid of confidence.

At the pre-match press conference, NorthEast head coach Eelco Schattorie was present to share his thoughts on the upcoming fixture. “It is going to be a very difficult game. I think Delhi with the team they have, being that low on the table surprises me. I would even dare say that they could be top three if I had this team. They have a good mix of foreigners and Indians. We have had a good start. We have some suspensions and some injuries, so how we are going to play remains a question mark, but it is going to be a tough match for sure,” he said.

When asked how he plans to ensure that his side maintains their current momentum going forward, the Dutchman admitted that his team still needs time to reach their full potential. “You don’t control these things. You can only try and keep the moral high. I think we are still developing our playing style. But overall, I am sure that the players want to work hard. But Delhi really have a solid team and I think they can play good football. “

Both of NorthEast’s victories so far have come away but Schattorie claimed that his troops just need sound preparation to ensure another victory. “Of course, there is always a difference if you play away or home. But I don’t look at these things. For our first home match against Goa, we started very well but we drew the game and against Chennaiyin, we started very badly but we came back. There is no direct influence that I am scared of. We need to prepare ourselves as well as possible to get the three points.”

Schattorie also had a few encouraging words for NorthEast’s dynamic duo, Bartholomew Ogbeche and Federico Gallego, who have been the star performers in the squad. “Well the only thing that I can say is that I am happy to have them. I cannot put it in easier words than that.”
