Former Mumbai City FC defender, Sauvik Chakrabarti has completed a move to Hyderabad FC. In doing so, the 28-year-old becomes the second Indian recruit for Hyderabad in the January transfer window of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20. Sauvik has played seven matches for the Islanders in the ongoing season, scoring a goal in their 2-4 loss to FC Goa in early November.

Having plied his trade for Mohun Bagan at the beginning of his career, Sauvik has featured in every season of the Hero ISL. He was initially a part of the now defunct Delhi Dynamos FC for three campaigns, following which he played for Jamshedpur FC before moving to the west coast during the 2018-19 season.

Although the experienced defender has been a part of the league since its inception, he has just a single goal and assist to his name. However, his defensive capabilities cannot be questioned. He has made 136 interceptions and 309 clearances in the 78 matches he has played in the Hero ISL over the years.

This season, Sauvik was key to Mumbai’s strong away run, having accounted for 14 interceptions and 32 clearances during the first half of the season. His addition to Hyderabad's squad will allow makeshift right-back, Nikhil Poojary to play more forward. Meanwhile, he will look to arrest Hyderabad's goal-conceding tendency, with the club having conceded a staggering 32 goals this season till date.
