India cricketer Rohit Sharma was thrilled over watching his first football game in his home city and also because the club he came to support, Mumbai City FC, came out trumps in their encounter against Delhi Dynamos at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai today. When asked if it was the first football game he has watched in India, the right handed batsman replied, “In India, yes. I have seen a couple of games in the English Premier League but it felt fantastic watching a football game in my home city. It was good game to watch and see a brilliant goal by my favourite player (Nicolas Anelka),” he said.Sharma was all praise for the ex-Chelsea and ex-Real Madrid player and said his joy knew no bounds when he heard that the Frenchman had signed up for Mumbai City. “I was really excited when I heard that he would be playing for Mumbai,” Sharma revealed. “He’s a proven player and he showed what he’s made of, so I hope this goal is one of many.”“I will try my best to come whenever time permits, so I really do hope to catch more games,” promised the India star when asked whether he would be present at Mumbai City’s future home games.Sharma believes that Mumbai can make it to the final of the Hero Indian Super League if they continue in the same vein: “I really hope they reach the final and that should be the goal. After today, I hope they continue to display such performances.”
