Ahead of their 2015 Hero Indian Super League game against defending champions Atlético de Kolkata on Wednesday, Chennaiyin FC manager Marco Materazzi has admitted that with the quality they have in the team they don’t deserve to be at the bottom of the table. However, the Italian, whose team has 10 points from nine matches, was still hopeful of a semi-final berth with five matches to go in the league stage for his team.“Yes, I’m convinced it’s a really good team. We are not performing to our potential. And we have very few games left and it’s going to be difficult but all other teams are also very close on the points table, so we still have a chance to qualify but we need to win 2-3 games for that,” Materazzi told reporters ahead of the match on Tuesday.Chennai have conceded seven penalties so far and Materazzi acknowledged it was a matter of concern. ”Yes, of course it’s something for us to worry about and yes we have conceded a lot of penalties and it certainly worries us,” he said.Elaborating on Chennai’s defensive lapses this season, Materazzi said: “The players are good and we have a good defence but what we can improve is being more focused throughout the duration of the game. They are good players with qualities and can stay focused throughout the game.”Materazzi also praised marquee player Elano but said football was a team game and every player was important in the larger picture. “Elano had a great season last year and this year he has scored 4 goals, he has made 4 assists, so he is having a good season this year but one player doesn’t make the game, we win together, we win lose together. I think our team is not performing to potential.”
