NorthEast United FC picked up their first win of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 after beating Delhi Dynamos FC 2-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. Marcinho and Danilo Lopes scored for the Highlanders, while the Lions were left to rue missed opportunities. Post-match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with NorthEast goal-scorer Marcinho and Delhi midfielder Vinit Rai.

Marcinho expressed his delight after helping his team pick up their first win. “I am so happy because the last game wasn’t good for us as we were beaten three nil and in this game, we did everything that we could, and that’s why we got 3 points,” he exclaimed.

He added: “We have to concentrate like this game and do what the coach says and if we show the same performance, we can also get three points there.”

Meanwhile, Rai thought that his team was unlucky to have not scored any goal, but admitted that the fault was their own. “We were very unlucky today; I know it’s our fault because we conceded two goals as we were very sloppy in the first 20 minutes,” he explained. “After that, as the game went on, we did really well and in the last 70 minutes we dominated them. We had a lot of opportunities but did not convert so I think we were unfortunate to lose the game today.”

However, he was confident that the Lions will bounce back strongly from this setback. “It’s time for us to train harder, correct what we’ve done wrong and come back stronger for the next game,” he said. “I want my offence to stay strong and I want the same support so hopefully we will try our best and win.”
