Indian Super League (ISL) side Bengaluru FC were knocked out of the Kalinga Super Cup following a penalty shootout defeat to Inter Kashi in Bhubaneswar.

Matija Babović’s late equaliser cancelled out Ryan Williams’s opener, sending the match into a tiebreaker, where the Blues fell short, losing 3–5 in the shootout.

The I-League side created a couple of chances in the opening half, with former Bengaluru FC forward Edmund Lalrindika leading the charge. Inter Kashi nearly broke the deadlock through Prasanth Karuthadathkuni, who struck the post after latching onto Edmund’s brilliant pass.

Williams and Alberto Noguera continued to find pockets of space but couldn’t break through the opposition’s sturdy backline, as the first half ended goalless.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu produced two excellent saves early in the second half, first parrying away Prasanth’s powerful strike and then denying Stojanovic’s free-kick with a sharp stop.

Bengaluru FC’s persistence finally paid off when Noguera’s chipped ball found Williams inside the Inter Kashi box. The pacy winger shrugged off his marker and slotted home to give the Blues the lead.

However, Inter Kashi mounted a late comeback, with Babović netting the equaliser in the 88th minute to take the game to penalties.

Inter Kashi remained clinical in the shootout, converting all of their attempts, while Noguera’s miss proved costly as the Blues bowed out of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025.

The Islanders confirm quarter-final berth with convincing win

Mumbai City FC displayed a clinical performance as they put four past Chennaiyin FC to advance to the Kalinga Super Cup quarter-finals.

Nikolaos Karelis scored the opener, followed by Lallianzuala Chhangte’s brace and Bipin Singh’s clinical finish, which propelled the Islanders to a commanding victory over the Marina Machans. With that, Mumbai City FC have extended their unbeaten run against Chennaiyin FC to 14 games across all competitions.

After soaking up early pressure from the opposition, Petr Kratky’s men began to assert themselves offensively, with the Chhangte-Karelis-Bipin trio leading the charge. Karelis broke the deadlock for the Islanders in the 42nd minute with a fortunate finish.

Led by Mehtab Singh, the Islanders looked solid at the back in the second half, effectively shutting down Chennaiyin FC’s counterattacks.

A flowing passage of play saw Mumbai City FC double their lead in the 63rd minute, as Chhangte calmly slotted home Karelis’ inch-perfect pass. The Islanders’ captain added his second late in the game, showcasing brilliant footwork that left the Chennaiyin FC defence stunned.

Bipin Singh sealed the deal in the 90th minute with Mumbai’s fourth, as Kratky’s side cruised into the quarter-finals with a dominant performance.
