Hero Indian Super League 2015 kicked off on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai and it was not at all an ordinary affair. The Season 2 opener which featured Chennaiyin FC go up against Atlético de Kolkata saw the home side suffer a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the 2014 title winners.

In the post-match conference, Atlético de Kolkata coach Antonio Lopez Habas seemed very happy after gaining three point from the first match of the season. “I am very happy with this victory. It is very difficult in football to win an away game,” Habas said.

Atlético de Kolkata defender Augustine Fernandes, who played the entire stretch, was happy about his first brush with the Hero ISL. “I think this is the best day of my life. Playing in the ISL and that too with a champion team!” Fernandes beamed.

The Chennaiyin FC squad put up a tough fight nonetheless, with goals from Jeje and Elano. However, they were unable to cancel out Postiga’s double and Valdo’s header entirely. “We were just unlucky”, Chennaiyin FC assistant coach Vivek Nagul said.

“The ball landed in no man’s land so many times that led to us conceding soft goals. A couple of things went wrong, but on the other hand, we turned the pressure on Atlético [de Kolkata] as well.

He further added: “I think we created good chances today. In the first half, we struggled for the first few minutes. After that, we enjoyed good ball possession; Fikru did well too. Out of the 17 shots, 10 were on-goal. I think that’s a good sign for the team.
