Slum Soccer, one of the three Partner NGOs of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) in its grassroots initiatives, organised a grassroots development festival in Nagpur on 21st January. Slum Soccer seeks to provide solutions to overcome homelessness and improve living standards within underprivileged areas and to develop life and social skills in children through the medium of football. The aim of the festival was primarily to encourage children to play and to enjoy the beautiful game. In addition, it served as a platform to scout talent for the second phase of the ISL’s grassroots activities scheduled in April. Over 300 children participated in its first phase over a period of 5 hours, with the primary focus of the festival being on playing small sided games to develop and demonstrate skills. The NGO is known for using the beautiful game to bring about change in the lives of those less fortunate. “Spreading football through various youth level activities like these is the bedrock of the ISL’s grassroots programme. Slum Soccer’s grassroots festivals aim to ensure that children have a safe and inclusive environment to play the sport and hone their skills on a regular basis,” said Slum Soccer CEO, Abhijeet Barse.Check out some photos from the event here.
