The Hero Indian Super League has initiated a Grassroots Program for the development of football and footballers in India, with all eight franchises in tow. FC Pune City conducted a Physical Education Instructor’s Workshop on January 14, 2015 as part of the initiative.
FC Pune City organised the training session at St. Vincent’s school in Pune. The aim was at creating a cadre of coaches that could go ahead and provide the right training at the school level.
FC Pune City’s grassroots technical director, Jose Hevia was in attendance alongside ISL Grassroots Technical Director, Piet Hubers who also provided his inputs to the instructors.
The workshop was divided into three sessions. The first session was a theory session, being a part of the ‘Coach the Coaches’ program organised by the technical director hired by the club. Jose Hevia explained how grassroots activities should be conducted for various age groups and what activities could be done.
The second session saw a practical demonstration of the activities that were discussed in the theory session with only the coaches participating and the technical director training them.
The final session for the day saw a practical session being organised with 50 children in which the coaches put into action what they were taught earlier in the day.
