Farias relieved after first win

NorthEast United FC won their first match of the 2015 Hero Indian Super League on Tuesday evening when they beat last year’s semi-finalists Chennaiyin FC 2-0 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati and head coach Cesar Farias was pleased as Punch.

Addressing the media after the match, the Venezuelan launched into an impassioned review of the win that came after three consecutive defeats.

“I had expressed [before] that we had worked hard and we were ready for adversities. We did a great pre-season and found great chemistry and high confidence in our group. We knew we didn't have any excuses. Even though we had lost three games we knew we had done many positive things and we needed to continue to get results of our good work. Today we worked with focus, confidence and faith, and above everything, with order and patience,” Farias said.

“We continue to believe in Indian football. We believe in this league. We came here to work with love and passion. Today we started with [Aiborlang] Khongjee, coming back from national duty, and Hali Charan [Narzary] who was finally fit to play. [Andre] Bikey also made his debut. As a team we can win and lose but we believe in what we are doing and we deserved a win today.

“We believe in the work we put in and in our team chemistry. Today we shook off our defeats in front of our crowd, we were indebted to them and we hope that the stadium is full and packed when we play the champions [Atletico de Kolakta on Friday] in our next game. The game is going to be very tough, like every other game in the league. Thank you for your patience, tonight we sleep in peace and we feel we are becoming more and more part of NorthEast.”

With their first win in four matches, NorthEast moved one place up to seventh in the league. Mumbai City FC, who play Delhi Dynamos FC on Wednesday, now prop up the league.
