Carlos ready for Kerala and big crowd

After two successive wins against Chennayin FC and FC Pune City, Delhi Dynamos FC marquee player-cum-coach Roberto Carlos is buoyant going into their next Hero Indian Super League Season 2 encounter against Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday.

Carlos, who featured in a 2-0 loss against FC Goa in the first match, spoke to the media ahead of the game on Saturday and credited his players with bringing the team back into reckoning. “I am not coming from two wins, my players are the ones who are coming out of those wins. It means the credit should be given to the players rightfully. My team is ready to perform well and to play a good game,” Carlos said.

The Brazilian, who was joined by defender Anas Edathodika at the conference, said he would make his second appearance this season only if the team needed his services.

“Present line of defenders are playing good. Anas himself was playing good, but yes I am ready if the need arises, I will play. Every game is very difficult and I'm already happy with the work of the players.”

Carlos was also quick to shower praise on Kerala-born Anas. “He is one of my favourite players, he can improve much more and that goes for every player. When players are playing well they get selected for the national team. I have three or four players maybe they can join the national squad, they're all playing that good.

When asked what his plans were against a team which lost just one home game last season, and normally sees big crowds turn up, Carlos said: “…They know how to play here, I've been speaking to all the players about how to handle big crowds. Most important thing is fighting and to stay motivated. I know that 61,000 people will come. I used to love playing in huge stadiums, it would make me crazy to win the game with 61,000 people having fun, celebrating. It’s amazing.”

Carlos also revealed that he was in touch with some of the great football players he had played alongside in the past, informing them every bit about the Hero Indian Super League and Delhi Dynamos.

“I was on the phone with [David] Beckham yesterday, he was inviting me over for a charity match. That was when I told I could not come because I was with Delhi Dynamos…love talking about Delhi dynamos.

“I talked to Ronaldo…Marcelo [who plays for Real Madrid] keeps asking me how the players are over here and how good football is. …That is all, everyone knows about Delhi dynamos. Our last match was aired in Brazil, so yes everyone is talking about us.”
