Carlos pleased with second-half performance

Delhi Dynamos FC registered their third successive draw at home in the 2015 Hero Indian Super League on Saturday evening - this time against defending champions Atlético de Kolkata, but marquee player-cum-coach Roberto Carlos wasn’t unduly worried and expressed satisfaction at the way his team came back from a goal down to draw 1-1. “First half, I didn’t like it. Players weren’t expressive enough. They did exactly what I asked for in the second half. They showed what Delhi Dynamos are all about,” Carlos told reporters after the match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
“I think in the second half, we deserved to win. We had three attackers on and [Florent] Malouda was also helping. We were on the offensive. I think my team is on the right path.”
However, Carlos admitted the league was getting tougher by the day. “There is no easy competition. ISL is very equal. We get assumptions like Delhi will go to the semis. Then the matches happen and things [turn out to be] equal. All matches are pretty much equal and it is hard for everyone,” the Brazilian said.
When asked if the terror attack in Paris on Friday affected former France international Malouda, Carlos said: “Speaking of what happened, I think that affects everyone but I think Malouda is an experienced player so he can focus. And here, when we see something like that happening in Paris, everyone feels equally bad about it. And Malouda is very crucial, he is one of my captains.”
Under Carlos, India striker Robin Singh has improved greatly. Carlos explained as to what has led to the player’s improvement. “I have been talking to all of my players. They have more to give. So I try to show them a winner’ perspective. Robin has changed the way he plays, now he is really focused and is constantly thinking about Delhi Dynamos and India. I’m really happy if you think that he is playing well because of me. I am just helping him become better for India,” he said.
Both teams’ positions in the table remained unchanged following the draw. Delhi, with 15 points from nine matches, continued trailing table-toppers FC Goa and FC Pune City, while ATK were one point behind the Lions at fourth. ATK coach Antonio Lopez Habas also seemed satisfied with his team’s performance. “We had many problems in the first part of the league. Now we have [Helder] Postiga etc. back. I’m very happy with today’s performance,” Habas said.
ATK have yet to record a clean sheet this season but Habas was bothered not in the least. “We are playing the best possible team and the best possible combination. We have the best goal difference. I’m not worried,” the Spaniard said.
