A day after announcing that Avram Grant has taken up the role of an Advisor to the club, NorthEast United FC unveiled last season’s assistant coach, Eelco Schattorie, as their new head coach on Friday. This will be his second season as a part of the Highlanders’ managerial setup.

The 46-year-old, who has a UEFA Pro License, spent a majority of his coaching career in the Middle East, before shifting base to India. With a rich legacy behind him, Schattorie is also known to promote young talent from the ranks and inject a brand of expansive attacking football within his team.

The Highlanders management has high regards for the Dutch and stated in the official club press release that they were impressed by his determination and stewardship. For them, it was a unanimous decision to promote Schattorie to his new role

Speaking on his appointment, Schattorie said, “Firstly I would like to thank the management for giving me the opportunity of becoming the Head Coach of NorthEast United. I am ready to "take the bull by the horns" as I always like to say! I'm not a very diplomatic person. I always like to work hard and make things happen on the field. The only thing that I care about is my players, the club and the supporters. Hopefully, it's going to be a beautiful season and I'm looking forward to meeting the fans back in Guwahati and let’s make it a beautiful journey!"
