A Wellington Priori wonder-goal proved to be the difference as Jamshedpur FC beat NorthEast United FC 1-0 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Saturday in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18. The three points saw the league debutants climbing to the third spot on the table, with their chances of qualifying for the playoffs getting stronger. The Highlanders fought back but failed to breach the hosts’ defence and speaking to indiansuperleague.com after the final whistle was the goal-scorer himself. The Brazilian spoke about the match and the road ahead, and here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on the game?

I’m very happy. Thank God for this win. I’m proud of the team. The entire team has been doing a great job since the beginning of the season and it’s a very happy moment for us to be in the third position. I think we deserve it because we work very hard and we work as a family. That’s a very good thing. So, I’m happy for us.

Your take on the fantastic goal you scored?

As I said before, I didn’t think about anything at the time. I just wanted to help the team and just wanted to score. I’m happy that I have this technique since I was a kid. I used to play with my friends in the sand. I’m very happy that I scored the goal but I’m happier because we won the game. It’s a very important three points. Let’s go for the next one and fight again.

How much does this win mean to Jamshedpur?

It was a very, very important game. Also, because NorthEast have a very strong side. They’re very solid, they’re very strong, they have a good defence, midfield and attack as well. I’m happy that we also worked really hard and won the game. That was very important for us.

What is the feeling in the camp after earning another clean sheet?

Yes, we’re very confident. That’s the first target when we go for a match – a clean sheet. I’m happy that we won the game and kept a clean sheet, as that’s very important for us and very good for our team as an organized and professional team. I’m just proud of them. God bless everyone that came here tonight, all the supporters. Thank you guys, thank you very much for everything.
