Chennaiyin FC travel to the home of NorthEast United FC in Guwahati to take on the Highlanders at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Friday. Chennaiyin are undefeated in their last five encounters and a win would see them regain top spot in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 points table. The visitors’ Slovenian midfielder Rene Mihelic has been a lynchpin in the middle of the park and already has two assists as well as a goal to his name. Prior to Friday’s match, the 29-year-old sat down with indiansuperleague.com and shared his views on the league, his team and more. Here are the excerpts.

This is your first season in Hero ISL. How has the experience been so far?

Yes, this is my first season here and I really enjoy it here. ISL is a very good league, every team is good, all the stadiums are almost full and I really enjoy it here.

How easy was it for you to gel with your teammates?

All my teammates are great. I really enjoy myself with them and we are good friends. Everybody in the club and everybody in the team are very good. I really enjoy myself with the team.

What moment do you cherish the most in your career?

I think the best moment was when I played for the first time for the national team of Slovenia.

How does it feel to be in the top four in the table?

Of course, everyone enjoys when they are at the top of the league. We enjoy it a lot and I hope, we will finish like this, as well.

Any particular advice from the coach which has helped you?

The coach (John Gregory) gives us very good advice all the time. He is a very good coach and I am very happy to work with him.

What is the team's objective for the rest of the season?

Our team goal is to take three points in every game. I think, we have won five to six games till now and I hope, we finish all the games like this.

How do you assess NorthEast as an opponent?

Every team in our league is very good. All the teams have good players - foreign players, senior players and it is very difficult to play with every team. Tomorrow will be a very tough game. I hope, we will take three points but it will be a very difficult game.

What has been your best moment in the league so far?

When I scored my first goal.
