Paul rues wasted opportunities after defeat

Subrata Paul conceded his first goal in NorthEast United FC colours against former club Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Friday. The Highlanders also succumbed to their first loss of the 2016 Hero Indian Super League courtesy of a Diego Forlan penalty early in the second period that handed the hosts a 1-0 victory. It bought an end to the Highlanders’ perfect start to the season and made it back-to-back wins for Mumbai. Paul, who is yet to be beaten from open play this year, spoke to indiansuperleague.com shortly after the match. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Tough game today. Lot of chances created by both teams. What do you think went wrong for your team?

Both the teams played very well. I would like to congratulate Mumbai City FC on winning the game. We were unlucky today as we created a lot of chances in the first half and failed to convert them. Mumbai City FC’s goalkeeper made a couple of good saves. It’s a long way to go, we have to concentrate on the next game we have on 12th and forget what has already happened.

About the penalty… you got your hand to it. Do you think you could have saved it?

It was a goal. What I think now doesn’t matter. Mumbai City FC won the three points. However, next time I will try harder.

Your next match is against FC Pune City. What are your takeaways from this match?

Technical points will be informed by the coach. We will try to follow the instructions of the coach.
