Norde rues playing too many ‘long balls’ after Delhi draw

Sony Norde was at his devastating best for Mumbai City FC in a 3-3 draw against hosts Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Haitian capped off an outstanding performance with his first goal of Hero Indian Super League 2016. Norde also played a crucial role in Mumbai’s second goal after his thunderous free-kick rattled Delhi’s woodwork and fell to Krisztian Vadocz, who nodded into an open net. The 27-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the highest scoring game of the season so far and shared his thoughts on the match. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

How are you feeling after that tough game?

Feeling good but sad as well. We were leading 3-1 and in the last 15 minutes we conceded two goals. But we played against a very good team which fights till the very end. We deserved to win but things didn’t go our way, we look forward to our next game now.

Mumbai were dictating terms at one time and you particularly seemed to be playing very well, even got a goal. And then you came off and your team fell apart. What exactly went wrong?

In the second half, we stopped playing football and only kept playing long balls. Our coach tells us not to play too many long balls, rather keep the ball on the ground and play some football. We were tired in the last 15-20 minutes and Delhi Dynamos played very well and came back into the game.

How do you think the team will take this as a lesson? Do you think this experience will help you fight harder in the next match?

Our coach told us that we have to win the next game, this is football such things happen. We now have to go to Mumbai and recover well and try to win our next game [vs FC Goa on Friday], since it is a very important game.
