Holicharan Narzary has been one of the revelations of the 2016 Hero Indian Super League so far. The 22-year-old NorthEast United FC midfielder has thrown a scare into opposition defences several times this season with his speed and great passing ability. One of the reasons behind the Highlanders doing so well this season, Narzary has so far one assist and four successful take-ons to his name. He spoke to indiansupeleague.com ahead of his team’s home encounter against Atlético de Kolkata at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

You have been one of the biggest finds of the 2016 Hero ISL, what is the biggest factor behind your success?

I agree that I am a young player but there are many more up-and-coming young players. I just need to continue working hard and see how it goes. Basically, I am one of the young players in NorthEast United FC. Maybe, I am the youngest playing in the team.

Are you excited about the game tomorrow, first East-Indian derby this season?

I am very excited. Considering our form, we are even more exited to win the derby. Being our first derby game, I am very excited to be playing in front of so many fans.

Does playing in the derby bring any additional pressure on you?

I always hope to play well in the derby match, to give my 100% and work hard for the team. We need to play together as a team. There is a different feel and excitement that it is a derby match and we have to play well.

Who do you think is the biggest success story at NorthEast United FC?

We are playing as a team. All are working hard as a team to play well.

You might have set a target in terms of points in first seven matches, how close are you to that target?

Points are definitely important. We need to be in the top 4 at all times. So it is very important to win the next game to get the three points, so not only we can continue being in the top 4 but also go top of the table.

This match tomorrow is coming after a long break having last played on October 20. Was it a much-needed break?

We did work a lot then [before the break], so we shall see what happens in tomorrow’s game. Even in this long break we have been working hard. It is basically because getting those three points is very important to us.
