Kerala Blasters FC striker Michael Chopra took part in an extended Q&A session on the official ISL Facebook page (www.facebook.com/IndianSuperLeague) today, answering questions sent in by hundreds of Hero ISL fans right from the morning.
The former Newcastle United frontman answered questions ranging from his Indian heritage, to his favourite footballers of all time. You can read the entire transcript of the Q&A below:
Q: Would you prefer to be known as an Indian who scored in the EPL or as an English player playing in India?

A: I would like to be known as an Indian scoring in the EPL, however, being known as an English player playing in India is pretty cool!
Q: What needs to be done to turn India into an international force in football?
- Jimmy Solanki
A: Hi Jimmy, I think it just needs to come from the grassroots upwards and encourage local youth talent as well as nurture their skills.
Q: Can you call the ISL a revolution or is it just an evolution ?
- Vineeth Nair
A: Hi Vineeth, in my opinion it is definitely a revolution!
Q: Sir, tell me how I can get myself to the Indian national football team?
- Debasis Pattanaik
A: Hi Debasis, key factors will be hard work, determination and unlimited passion for this beautiful game. These are all qualities the management would be looking for.
Q: Which is your favourite club and favourite position, as well as your preferred shirt number?
- Raveendra Saraswatula
A: My favourite club would be Newcastle FC, preferred position would be striker and my shirt number will hopefully be the Number 8 shirt!
Q: Can we see you playing in the Indian national team in the future?
- Jeetu IJ
A: Yes it would be a great honour and achievement for me to be involved in the Indian national team. Hopefully my performances in the ISL will make this happen.
Q: What was the best moment of your career?
- Serchhip Chelsea
A: Thinking back to when I started playing professionally and I made my debut for Newcastle United. Good memories. Looking forward to putting on the Kerala Blasters shirt!
Q: Who was the best player you have played with/against?
- Himanshu Upadhyay
A: Hi Himanshu - best player I played with was Alan Shearer, best player I played against... Christiano Ronaldo (#pureclass).
Q: What do you think of the current Kerala Blasters line up? Is it possible to win the title?
- Aml Xavi
A: Yeah, great line-up. I think we will definitely win the title!
Q: Which Indian player do you want to see playing in top European leagues?
- Jai Jethawa
A: Has to be Sunil Chhetri. Great player.
Q: Which is the best team you have ever played against?
- Raghav Sethi
A: I've played against some quality teams. FC Barcelona in the Champions League has to be up there.
Q: What attracted you to come to the ISL?
- Shreekumar Subramanian
A: I'm of Indian heritage and it's something that I have wanted to do since childhood. Am over the moon that I finally have the opportunity!
Q: Michael, so how is Kerala's food?
- Basim Ali
A: Hi Basim, not sampled the delights as yet. Looking forward to all the delicious dishes (mmmmmm...)!
Q: How can you improve Indian football?
- Yasar Thangal
A: My wealth of experience playing for Championship and Premiership clubs over the years will allow me to offer my knowledge and experience to my fellow Indian players.
Q: Being 30 years old, how much football is left in you?
- Salil Pillai
A: Hi Salil, with age comes even more experience and I'm confident that I will be able to play for at least 5 more years, hopefully longer!
Q: Will there come a day when the 'A listers' of football actually choose ISL over other leagues?
- Sameer Roopawalla
A: Without a doubt. The league is already attracting some big names that will inevitably help it to grow its presence globally.
Q: How did you feel when ISL officially approached you? Were you excited to play in India?
- Samrat Chakraborty
A: I was chuffed and over the moon. Cannot wait to get started!
Q: What is football, to you?
- Rajinder Singh
A: Hi Rajinder, my life has always been football since I can remember.
Q: Michael, in your opinion, how will the ISL be changing the football game in India? What else should we be doing to promote the game and make people passionate about it?
