FC Goa picked up maximum points by defeating Jamshedpur FC 3-0 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Sunday, to book a semi-final spot for themselves in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18. The formidable Spanish duo of Ferran Corominas and Manuel Lanzarote combined for the Gaurs to breach the host’s defence thrice, on a night were two red cards were flashed. After the final whistle, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the visitor’s delighted midfielder Mandar Rao Dessai to find out his views on the victory and the semi-final. Here are the excerpts.
Your thoughts on the game?
They got a red card in the starting of the game and it was good for us, I think. We scored a goal and went forward. Then we relaxed but they were pushing a lot, in the second half as well, but then they conceded and it was our game.
What was the game plan for the match?
A draw was okay for us, but we were playing for a win. So we went out, enjoyed and won the game.
Any comment on the fights that happened during the game?
When they got a red card, I think after that they started fighting. It was good for us as they were losing their mind. But we kept our calm and scored goals, as it was important for us.
How does it feel to qualify for the semi-finals?
It was difficult because when we had the 6-7 games, it looked easy, but then we lost and drew some games. The last three games were the deciders for us and we played really good and scored a lot of goals. Now we are in the semi-finals and it is looking good for us.
Your take on Corominas and Lanzarote’s performances?
All players are important to us but these two are scoring a lot of goals in our team. So yes, they were important for us throughout the season and now in the semi-finals.
What sort of preparation would be done for the semi-finals?
Let’s celebrate as we are in the semi-finals. Now I think we should rest for it as the semi-finals are coming soon and we’ll get ready for it.
