Malouda delighted after magical evening for Delhi

Florent Malouda produced one of the best individual displays of Hero Indian Super League 2016 to help Delhi Dynamos FC to a 4-1 win over Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday. The Lions’ marquee man burst into life for Gianluca Zambrotta’s men as they did the double over the reigning champions this season to go top of the table. Malouda, who is the leading assists provider in the history of the league, opened his account for the Dynamos on Wednesday evening by bagging a brace besides also providing two assists. The 36-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the final whistle. Here are the excerpts from the interview.Great run of form.

How would you describe that?

Very very happy, and it feels great to do well, and the first time I scored today, that too a double, so that was a very nice feeling but we play again in three days and we have got to win again.

You played here last year, but this year it seems like another level, so what is the reason for this success?

I think our work and dedication. We have the experience from last season and we don’t want to feel frustrated like we did after the semi-final last season, so we are trying to build something to perform in the semi-final to reach the final, so we know we have a long way to go. But game after game we are trying to build the confidence.

On a personal level, a great game for you. How do you feel about that?

I feel great because there has been a lot of work during the training session to make us more clinical on the pitch. I am very sorry that [Richard] Gadze was injured and I hope it is not bad but I hope all the players in the squad will be ready for the challenge ahead to achieve our objective.

It’s a bit early to say but Delhi have been the team to beat so far, so how would you rate your chances of actually going all the way to win the title?

We have to remain humble because every game is different. Playing well is not enough as in the end winning the title or not will decide if we are a good team or not, and as the leader of the team I have to remind everyone in my young squad that we have to be ambitious but we have got to stay humble.
