Mumbai City FC moved to second place in the Hero Indian Super League 2017-18 table with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Delhi Dynamos FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Friday. Captain Lucian Goian opened the scoring for the Islanders, latching on to the rebound from Achille Emana’s missed penalty. While speaking to indiansuperleague.com after the match, he shared his thoughts on the same. Here are the excerpts.
Your thoughts on the match?
It looked like an easy victory but we worked hard for it. We deserved this victory and the three points. We were the better team and we showed that we can be focused till the end. We didn’t concede goals and we scored four. It was a crucial game for us because it was important for us to win, so we could be within touching distance of the top of the table. This is what we are aiming and fighting for. So, we are very happy.
What did you think of the two red cards?
You can say it didn’t change the game too much. We had our right-back sent off while they lost their playmaker. So, it was more advantageous to us. But I think we won today because of our attitude and like I said, we were the better team
You celebrated with your son after the goal. Tell us something about that.
Yes, he’s a part of the team. Every day he’s with us and he has different celebrations with everybody in the team. Also, every day he plays football, he loves football. He told me before the game if I score, to come to him to celebrate together. I cannot feel more proud about this. To score in front of my son and my family, because my wife was also there and they’re my support system. They give me a balance in life. They give me everything I need, to give 100% on the pitch.
How does it feel to end 2017 on a high?
It’s feels very good. The last impression is the one that matters. We had a good year and we hope that we start 2018 the same way as we finished 2017.
