ATK succumbed to their fourth straight loss as Bengaluru FC handed them a 2-0 defeat at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18. The defending champions put up a solid fight before falling short in front of Jordi Montel’s own-goal and Miku’s second-half winner. After the disappointing loss, which further dim ATK’s chances of making the playoffs for the first time in league history, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Jayesh Rane to find out his views on the fixture and the road ahead. Here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on the match?

I think we could have done better. We were not lucky. There were two chances from which I could have scored. Not our day, I guess, but I think we should work harder and get the ball in the back of the net.

How much of a killer blow was Bengaluru’s second goal?

I think the second goal was the one which put us down more because one goal we could have got easily, but the second was too hard. If we had conceded once, I think, we could have made our way back into the match.

Does this defeat end ATK’s qualification chances for the playoffs?

I can’t say anything about that. Anything can happen. If we work hard, be together and think about winning, it may be possible.

What will be the mood like going into your next game against Kerala Blasters FC?

It would be tough because we are losing consecutive matches and playing against a team who is also fighting for the playoffs. So, it will be tough. May the better team win that day.

What is the atmosphere like in the dressing room right now?

Like every other team. No one is happy with the loss. It’s about being together and this is the time we should prove that we are together and maybe, that will help in the coming matches.
