NorthEast United FC will be looking to bag their first victory at home in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 when they host Kerala Blasters FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. The Highlanders have had a good start to their campaign but are yet to win in their own backyard.

Ahead of the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with NorthEast defender Gurwinder Singh, who has also represented Kerala before, for an interview. Here are the excerpts.

How has your experience been playing for NorthEast United FC?

So far, it has been good. It is a new team and a new club but I settled in well and it feels good to be here.

On playing against his former side Kerala Blasters FC.

I don't think like that. I give my 100% and I try not to differentiate. I don't think about the pressure when facing a particular team. So, I try and play naturally.

How much of an impact are the foreign players?

Foreign players have the best finishing. Our players need to learn a lot from them and they have their basics on point. We should learn from their lifestyle as well and see where we can improve.

How important are the pre-season friendlies?

The advantages are that the team settles well. Any mistakes can be rectified, and it is good for the coaches as well.

Are you concerned about the team's performance at home?

Our results have been good. We were a bit disappointed with the match against Jamshedpur FC as it is not good to get a red card in the first-half. So, the coach brought me on after the first-half and we managed to hold them off. So, it is a positive point for us.
