FC Pune City play host to Kerala Blasters FC in the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Complex Stadium in Pune in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 on Friday. A third consecutive win will catapult the Stallions to the top of the league standings. Uruguayan forward Emiliano Alfaro has played all of his team’s matches so far and has been in lethal form, bagging six goals so far. On the eve of the encounter, Alfaro took time to speak with indiansuperleague.com and shared his thoughts on the league and the coming fixture amongst other things. Here are the excerpts from the exclusive interview.

Can you tell us about your journey so far with FC Pune City?

Every season here is very hard for all teams. But luckily this year we have a very good team. We are trying to play good football, and so far, things are going well. So, I think we are in a good position. But we have not achieved anything yet, so we have to continue and keep this going.

Speaking about the season, which has been the toughest team you have faced so far?

All teams are very difficult, as it is a very competitive league. But if we have to choose, I’d say it would have to be Chennaiyin FC. They play well, have a strong defence and so is their finishing. We also lost both our games against them.

Before the season started, did you set a benchmark for yourself?

No, I never do that because I try to always give my best. And after that, if things happen, they will happen. This is the way, not only in football, but also in my life. I try to give my best and after that I wait for the things to come.

Who would you tag as the foodie?

The foodie is probably Diego Carlos.

And the joker?

There are many players like that. But I’d say Adil Khan!

What about the serious one?

The serious one would be Rafa (Rafael Lopez).

And finally, who is the emotional one?

The emotional one would be Jonatan Lucca. He’s very emotional!

In which players do you see the biggest potential?

There are many players with potential in our team. But if I had to choose one, I’d say Ashique (Kuruniyan) is one of the best.

If you had to play any a position other than a striker, which position would that be?

It is difficult because I cannot imagine myself playing in any other position, but if I had to, it would be as a centre-back.

Your thoughts for tomorrow’ game?

Like all games, it will be a very difficult game. If we think that it is going to be easy, we will be dead. So, we have to continue in the same way, we have to work hard, and we will try our best to win.
