NorthEast United FC made an incredible comeback against Chennaiyin FC from a two-goal deficit, as the visitors won the match 4-3, in what proved to be an enthralling 90 minutes of football at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Thursday. Rowllin Borges’ 54th minute striker proved to be the difference between the sides, with the midfielder making up for his own-goal earlier in the game. After the game, indiansuperleague.com, caught up with the hat-trick hero for an exclusive interview, where he spoke about how he lifted his players after going two goals down and the support the side received from the travelling fans. Here are the excerpts:
How did it feel to be a part of such an amazing match?
Amazing, amazing. I think it’s a game for the fans actually, I think we really entertained the fans tonight and most of all we showed character and yeah, that’s how we ended up getting the three points.
How confident are you feeling?
Really confident to be fair but we have to keep our heads down, keep our feet grounded and keep on going, there is no room for complacency. I’m doing well but there’s still a lot of room for improvement, so we need to keep on working hard and remain humble.
As captain, how did you get the boys together after going two goals down?
I think probably inside of the pitch it’s never over until it’s over for me and yes a few of the lads tried to bring their heads down so my intention was to raise them up, raise them up, fight until the last moment, let’s see what comes up because we have a very good team. Quite young but I think a good mixture and then we needed to keep on fighting and they reacted positively to my intention, to what I was telling them to do and we ended up getting the three goals and in the second half we were able to get the winning goal.
A word on the support of your away fans.
Yes, incredible fans to be fair. These three points, it’s dedicated to the fans actually and yes, without them we wouldn’t have been able to do this, so we need to keep on fighting for them and hopefully, we improve as the season goes on and finish as high as possible.
