Arindam Bhattacharya made three vital and game changing saves to deny Chennaiyin FC an opportunity to go top of the table and help FC Pune City cling on to a 1-1 draw in Pune tonight. He was justifiably voted Hero Indian Super League’s Emerging Player of the Match. A win for Pune may have taken them to first place themselves but the 6’ 2” goalkeeper from Kolkata says his team will still be challenging for the top spot. The 25-year-old shotstopper from Kolkata has won several honours with Churchill Brothers but his finest moment came in the India under-23 colours at the 2009 SAFF Championship where his incredible saves during regulation time and in the tie-breaker helped to beat defending champions Maldives 3-1 via penalties in the final. In an exclusive interview with indiansuperleague.com after the match, Arindam praised his teammates and goalkeeping coach for his run of form. Here are some excerpts: It was a 1-1 draw, what are your thoughts on that?It was a home match, we were always looking for a win but we drew the match and we’re still fighting for the top spot.Did you make any special preparations for the match and were you expecting a lot of long range shots from Chennaiyin FC?I have a very good goalkeeping coach who always tells me to look at the ball and correct my positioning. I was just trying to do that and keep it simple.A word on your defenders. To play with Bruno (Cirillo) and (Dharmaraj) Ravanan is always very good because they’re always helping me and encouraging me. I think it’s really good for me that I’m playing with them. It’s been a long time since Pune has lost a match, so where do they go from here?Everybody’s confident, we just want to keep winning. What do you have to say to the fans who have come to support you? Thanks for supporting us when we were not doing so well and now when we’re doing well. Keep coming to the stadium and we’ll keep doing better.
