Jamshedpur FC played out their third consecutive goalless draw against defending champions ATK on a historic night for the city, as the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur witnessed its first Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match on Friday. Though the hosts went close quite a number of times, they still remain in search of their first Hero ISL goal. Speaking to indiansuperleague.com after the match was the burly Cameroonian Andre Bikey, who put on a solid defensive display to thwart ATK. Here are the excerpts.
This was your first match at home in Jamshedpur. What are your thoughts on the match?
It was not an easy game. At home, the crowd expected us to win. It was disappointing not to score. At the same time, we are happy for the draw because it was a battle, you know. We tried but at the end, we have to be happy with the point.
Three points in three matches - not so great attacking wise but defensively very sound. Is that the positive you shall take from this match?
It is a positive for us. We know if we score one, it will build up to three, four or five. We don’t worry about that. If we don’t score, we have to keep a clean sheet.
How difficult was it to deal with the ATK men up front?
With two, it was a little difficult. They played to their strengths with the long balls and we are not really tall. The two guys upfront were 6 feet 5 inches and we were about 6 feet 1. But we’re happy that we dealt with that. We didn’t concede, that was the most important thing today.
First big event in Jamshedpur after a while. A word on the fans.
I’m happy because everyone came today. That is good for us. Unhappy because we didn’t score but the best is still to come. It’s still a long way to go. I’m sure that we’ll get a goal.
What’s the next building block for Jamshedpur FC?
We just take it game by game. The next game is away at Delhi. We’ll go there and try to win the game. I’m sure the goal will come and when it comes everything will change. It’s still a long way to go.
