Mumbai City FC’s Amrinder Singh will be looking to register back-to-back clean sheets in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 on Sunday when they take on defending champions ATK at the Mumbai Football Arena. The Indian shot-stopper has made the most saves this season (19) and will be looking to keep Kolkata’s frontline at bay as the Islanders look to break into the top four. The 24-year-old sat down with indiansuperleague.com for an exclusive chat ahead of his side’s encounter against ATK. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Do Mumbai have an advantage over ATK this season?

Our team has been performing well from game to game, but we will not be complacent just because ATK have not been at their best in their games till now. Any team going through a bad patch of form can turn out to be dangerous, like a wounded animal. They can do anything at any moment because they are hungry for victory. So, I don’t think we should focus on their current form or our good run of results at the Mumbai Football Arena. We have to focus on our own game and the plan that the manager has made for us and give our best.

One ATK player who can pose a threat to your goal?

I am not all that focused on any individual player but (on) the team we are going up against. How they think and play is what I focus on more. Football is a team sport. So, it isn’t always the case that one player can single-handedly turn the tables during a match.

Is Lucian Goian the best defender in Hero ISL?

I think he (Goian) is an extremely good defender because when we play together, he always listens to what I have to say and does what I ask him to do on the pitch. He responds very well to my organisation. Be it during training or during a match, he always listens to me and executes accordingly.

How has the new goalkeeping coach affected your game?

I always try to learn as much as possible from any other goalkeeper or goalkeeping coach I meet or work with. Working with the new coach has improved my game immensely and I have learned a lot from him. Even in the national team we have a Brazilian goalkeeping coach who has taught me a lot. Both have a similar system and focus more on positioning above other things.

Does being called India’s best keeper add more pressure?

When your coach trusts you and praises you as mine has, as a player, you get a confidence boost. A coach’s job is to improve the morale of his players and a player’s duty is to repay the faith put in him.
