NorthEast United FC played out their first draw of Hero Indian Super League 2016 against Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. The Highlanders had to come from behind to share the spoils after falling behind to a Kean Lewis goal in the 38th minute. A 51st-minute strike by Emiliano Alfaro after Nicolas Velez had squared the ball to the Uruguayan for his second assist of the season ensured that Nelo Vingada’s men wouldn’t leave Delhi empty-handed. Both NorthEast’s goal-scorer and assist-provider spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Emiliano, you scored your fourth goal today. What are you doing right?
It was a very difficult game till the final whistle, they also had a chance to win and even we created chances. Sometimes I can score, sometimes the ball goes out but this is football. The most important thing is that we take one point and continue being at the top of the table.
Nico, you provided that vital assist to Emiliano. What’s your take on the match?
Yes, this is team work you know and it is easier for me to play with a player like him, [Katsumi] Yusa, Romaric and I am very happy to take one point from here and I hope we can collect many more points further.
What’s your take on Emiliano’s hard-working attitude?
This is very important for us and everyone can see how he runs, how he fights for the team and he deserves to be the leading-scorer in the competition so this is very good for us.
Emiliano, did you expect to be the top-scorer at any point going into the season?
I expect us to reach the semis and that is most important. I expect everyone to work hard for the team. If Nico here does not provide me the pass then I cannot score, if Romaric, Yusa, Lazzaretti don’t find me in the middle, then I can’t score. The most important thing is that we are a team and we work hard to get the three points. Sometimes we win sometimes we lose but this is football.
Emiliano, just a word on the fans that came here in an away match to support NorthEast…
Yeah, this is very good for us. Even though we are in Delhi we feel their support and this is important for us. Now we have three games at home and we will do our best to return the favour.
Nico, what do you have to say about the fans?
Yes, they were amazing tonight and now we are looking forward to playing in Guwahati with our fans.
