FC Pune City were handed their third home loss at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune by Bengaluru FC on Thursday. The visitors came from behind to score thrice, winning 3-1 and strengthening their position at the top of the Hero Indian Super League 2017-18 table. Before the Stallions were forced to play with 10 men due to Baljit Sahni’s 56th-minute sending-off, Adil Khan scored the only goal for the home team with a diving header. Post-match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Pune’s lone scorer on the night to get his insights about the disappointing loss. Here are the excerpts.
What was the reason behind tonight’s loss?
I scored a goal, but the result is what matters. We lost by three goals to one because the second half red card changed everything. So not very happy with the goal. We wanted three points to go top of the table and Bengaluru is not a small team. It was difficult to play against them with 10 men.
According to you, which was the bigger blow - the red card or Isaac Vanmalsawma’s injury?
After the injury (to Isaac), Kean (Lewis) came in so it was not that much of a difference. The red card changed everything, 10 men down, playing against an organised team like Bengaluru FC who are top of the table, it was very difficult to play against them in the second half.
Having lost a man, were Pune going for a draw?
We were going for a draw because we were already down to 10 men. Had it been a draw for us with 10 men, it would have been a good result for us, but we failed to keep both a clean sheet and a draw.
